Have you ever gotten in a rut, where life starts to feel so darn tedious and boring?
Maybe you find yourself continually wishing you were somewhere in the future (or maybe the past)?
Or maybe you start thinking, “If only I (had this fancy technological gadget or was on my dream traveling adventure or had some attractive dude as my boyfriend or had a profitable online business), then I’m going to be REALLY extraordinary.”
Maybe you are waiting to be your extraordinary self one day… instead of just being extraordinary today.
I get like this sometimes…
Sometimes I get so focused on building Adventure Sauce into an online empire of Badassical-ness that I forget to enjoy pouring my heart into the films and articles.
Sometimes I get so concerned about fitting in quality time with my girlfriend, Angela that I forget to really be present with her.
Sometimes I get so excited to travel everywhere in the world that I forget to dig into the people and places around me now.
Sometimes I get so stoked to be a famous filmmaker that I forget to enjoy the freedom of being obscure now.
Sometimes I forget that if I want to be so damn extraordinary in the future… the best way to get there is to start right now.
Recently, I jutted myself out of a little rut by spending some time working on a short film for my kick-ass girlfriend, Angela. I wanted to go over the top to tell her I loved her, even though I was feeling like I was so strapped for time. Check out my cheesy, rough, & fucking awesome production here:
Sometimes I forget that when I give more to my art or to my relationships I usually gain a lot more than I lose.
My art was suffering too, because I’d created such an intense pressure on myself.
So… I needed to just make an extraordinary little film for Angela and really let her know how I feel about her. But as I created this, I realized something that is really important to my work.
Extraordinary people give more to their adventures, their work, their art, their relationships, and their life.
It isn’t easy to always find that little extra though, so here are 11 videos which have inspired me to be a little more extraordinary… maybe they can help you too.
1. An innovative & interactive film-page to Japan
Part film and part webpage, the dudes from Ok Go offer interactive inspiration to Japan after their recent earthquake.
2. Around the world in…
Casey Neistat (my newest favorite filmmaker) speeds around the world in 10 days on Nike’s dime.
3. Gravely Voice + More World Travel…
A unique travel movie about Patagonia.
4. Most Recent Viral Marriage Proposal
I like over-the-top marriage proposals and this one gives me the chills when I hear how loudly the crowd cheers this couple on.
5. The First Live Lip-Dup Proposal
What a hilarious production this must have been to be a part of…
6. How to be a professional photographer
If I ever become a professional photographer, this is how I want to do it.
7. I’m big fan of Moms
I say the more Mom shout-outs, the better.
8. Synchronicity
This love story is perfectly synched…
9. The only video that makes me want to sky dive
I almost sky dove once.
I had been planning a jump over the expansive, blue waters of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, when I got violently ill on the bus ride there. Nauseous and fever imprisoned me in my hostel for a couple days, while my buddy jumped without me.
I figured that was God’s way of saying, “Sky diving ain’t your thing, bud.”
10. How to throw a birthday party for a complete stranger
Improv Everywhere always inspires me to be extraordinary, but I especially dig this one.
11. And of course, I love people.
