I’m Benjamin Jenks and I’m kinda obsessed with understanding people.
Since I was a kid, and I was always curious,
“Why people are who they are?”
So I earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
I was a crisis and sexual assault counselor at a local center.
I spent thousands of hours helping ‘bad’ kids in the forests of Virginia…
And was the director of an outdoor therapeutic school.
But even though I was doing so much good in their lives…
My belly was sickeningly hollow, because I’d neglected my own dreams.
I’m also kinda obsessed with experiencing life (mostly through traveling).
It took everything I had to stay at that school for 6 years, because inside I longed to see the world.
So I create a project to find the goodness of people by hitchhiking around the USA for a year.
I made rules that I couldn’t buy transportation or lodging,
So I would be forced to meet people, sleep in forests, and hitch rides.
It seemed like the perfect adventure to face my fears,
Find myself, and start learning about the online world.
That was in 2009 and since then, I’ve hitchhiked over 23,000 miles around the USA…
Couchsurfed for 447 days with 72 people…
Wrote about and photographed hundreds of good people…
And met thousands more.
Which led me to falling in love with online video…
And I found out I’m sort of a natural at it.
In Adventure Sauce’s first week on Youtube, my video got 100,000 views.
It got even more on Vimeo… and I was featured on Japanese, French, and American television.
Even Rosie O’Donnell wanted me on her show there for a minute (before they pulled the plug on her).
Which was a cool way to start my own freedom business, (the place you are currently kicking it at now).
And gave me a lot to teach in my course about getting people to see your videos online.
